CARIB WORKERS PLAN
MASS MEETING
As
the Industrial Court case over the lockout at Carib continues, the National
Union of Government and Federated Workers is organising a mass meeting
outside the gates of Carib this coming Friday (25th June).
Speaking
before the meeting, Carl St. Rose, the President of the Carib Section of the
Union, said:
“We
have organised this meeting to bring our members up to date on the current
developments. We know that the employers are ringing our members at home and
confusing them with misinformation. It is important that our members get
information directly from the Union and that is why we are organising this mass
meeting to involve as many of our members as possible.”
In
reminding Carib workers not to trust information from the employers, Mr. St.
Rose added:
“If
any of our members want to know what is going on they should contact their Union
and not the employers.”
Carib
Glassworks Limited and the Caribbean Development Company locked out nearly 900
workers on 24th May. The NUGFW, which is the representing Union, has
submitted an Industrial Relations Offence (IRO) charge against the Companies in
the Industrial Court and also taken out an injunction, which is currently being
heard. The IRO and the injunction are claiming that the lockout is illegal. The
Court cases are continuing.
