TROUBLE
BREWING AT CARIB
Having
decided to lockout 900 workers, including all its technicians who do the
brewing, Carib is now in serious trouble brewing any beer at all.
All
ready, production of those drinks that are brewed under an international licence
have stopped. This includes the popular Smirnoff, Carlsberg and Guinness lines.
Reports
reaching locked-out workers from inside the plant are only a limited amount of
Stag and Carib are being produced and no soft drinks like Shandy and Malta.
Speaking
from the picket line, Carl. St. Rose, the President of the Carib Section of the
NUGFW, said:
“It
is clear that production of almost all Carib products is about zero. They are
struggling to produce limited quantities of Stag and Carib but that is about all
as far as we can tell. Whether this is up to the normal quality is seems
unlikely because all the skilled workers who produce the beer have been
locked-out.”
Carib
locked-out its workers last Monday (24th May) after only two meetings
at the Ministry of Labour on wages negotiations.
Whilst
the NUGFW met the Minister last Thursday (27th May) the employers
have refused to meet until 2nd June.
