CARIB
BLANKS MINISTER AGAIN
Despite
attempts to resolve the seven-day-old lockout at Carib, the Company has, for a
second time, blanked the Minster of Labour.
The
National Union of Government and Federated Workers responded
positively to an invitation from the Minister of Labour to meet and discuss the
lockout. This meeting took place last Thursday (27th May).
But
when invited by the Minister to come in for discussions, Carib declined and only
made themselves available some six day later on Tuesday 1st June.
The
NUGFW understands that they have now postponed their meeting with the Minister
again and will not be meeting him until Wednesday 2nd June.
Commenting
on the latest delaying tactic from the employers, Carl St. Rose, the President
of the NUGFW Carib Section, said:
“It
is clear that the employers are not interested in resolving this lockout. They
want to starve Carib workers into submission by making this lockout last as long
as possible. We always said this was not about wages but an exercise in Union
busting. The latest delaying tactics from the employers just confirms our
suspicions.”
