BEST
PAID? NOT US SAY CARIB WORKERS
Best
paid along the East/West corridor? Not us say locked-out Carib workers.
Responding
to what the Union described as “distortions”, the National
Union of Government and Federated Workers has issued information that
was used during the abortive negotiations with Carib.
The
information that the Union has now released shows that:
-
On
average Lever Brothers wages for weekly paid workers are 19.1% above their
counterparts at Carib
-
At
Nestlé, weekly wages are on average 14.6% ahead of those at Carib
-
For
monthly paid workers, the gap with Lever Brothers is even larger at an
average of 26.4%
-
Nestlé
pay an average of 15.2% more than Carib for their monthly paid workers
-
An
Accounts Clerk at Carib gets $5542.17 per month whereas a similar job at
Lever Brothers gets $7577.00 – 36.7% more
-
A
Grade B Tradesman at Carib is paid $26.49 an hour compared with $33.75 at
Lever Brothers (27.4% more) and $34.61 at Nestlé (30.7% more)
Carl.
St. Rose, the President of the NUGFW Carib Section, said:
“To
suggest that Carib workers are the best paid along the East/West corridor is a
total distortion. We presented facts during the negotiations to show how far we
are behind Lever Brothers and Nestlé – and it has been like this for years.
ANSA McAL is making huge profits out of the work that we do and all we are
looking for is a bigger share of the wealth that we create for the Company.”
