GUN TOTIN’
CONTRACTOR THREATENS WORKERS
In
a serious threat to the lives of locked-out workers, a contractor employed by
Carib threatened a senior official of the National Union of Government and
Federated Workers yesterday.
The
incident happened early yesterday (24th May) as workers where being
thrown out of their jobs by Andrew Sabga, one of Carib’s Directors.
Marlon
O’Brien, the Vice President of the Carib Section of the NUGFW, was threatened
with a gun by Anthony Martin Thomas, who works for Carib as a contractor, as
Thomas was leaving the plant.
The
matter was reported to Inspector Ramsundar who was on duty at the gates of Carib
and who was due to report the matter to the St. Joseph Police Station.
Thomas,
a Trinidadian who was deported from the United States, has a US Inmate Account
Card with an ID number of 10425-265.
Mr.
O’Brien said:
“This
was a frightening incident. The man had his finger on the trigger. What are
Carib doing employing people like this? They are terrorising workers enough by
locking them out, they don’t need to employ thugs like this to threaten the
use of guns. We have enough guns on the streets as it is without the employers
allowing unlicensed guns on their premises.”
The
Carib Section of the Union has called on the Police to thoroughly investigate
the incident.
