HI-LO FOOD STORES LTD
Weekly paid
1999
TO 2002 COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
At the conclusion of
negotiations between the Union and Hi-Lo, many members will see their wages
increase by as much as 21%!
The key elements in the
settlement of the 1999 to 2002 Collective Agreement are:
-
A 9.27% increase in wages over the period of the
Agreement
-
Temporary workers to be made permanent
-
A general increase in hours of work
-
Chairs for cashiers
-
Increase in Premium Rates
Wages
The wage increase is based on a 3% increase for each year of the Agreement which
covers 1999, 2000 and 2001. Because the 3% is put on the basic before the next
3% is applied, the increase over the 3 year period is 9.27%. Back pay could be
as much as $1800 for some members although the amount will vary according to
grade and the amount of overtime worked during the period.
Temporary
workers
The Union has always fought
for job security and in an important development it has been agreed that all
workers employed on or before 30th April 2000 will be confirmed as
permanent with immediate effect. We expect approximately 200 workers to be made
permanent as a result.
Adjustment
of hours
After many years, the Union
has be able to get the basic hours of work back to their original levels and
this will see a major increase in earnings for our members. The increases
are:
- 36 hours reverting to 40 hours
- 27 hours to 30 hours, and
- 20 hours to 22 hours.
Chairs
for cashiers
In another breakthrough, we
have been able to se some progress of the “chairs for cashiers” issue.
This Agreement provides for
one chair for every three cashiers “suitably located in the Store”.
We are still pushing for further improvements in this area.
Premium
Rates
The rates remain unchanged
for the period 1st October 1999 to 30th September 2001 but with effect
from 1st October 2001 the new rates are:
- Subsistence Allowance
$17.00
- Call-back Allowance
$19.00
- Night Shift
$34.00
